Everything people ask about Doover, the free photo editor for iPhone.
What is Doover?
Doover (Doover AI on the App Store) is a photo editor for iPhone. It has a one-tap AI auto edit, film and black-and-white looks, a full manual darkroom, edits you make by describing them in plain words, AI effects that redraw a photo as something new, and a camera with composition guides.
Is Doover free?
Yes. Every editing tool, every look and auto edit are free, with no ads and no subscription required. Only the AI effects that redraw a photo use credits, and every account gets 20 credits a month free. Optional plans — Doover Plus ($4.99 a month) and Doover Pro ($12.99 a month, with HD output) — add more credits, and one-time credit packs are available.
What is the best free photo editor for iPhone without a subscription?
Doover is built for exactly that: the whole editor — light, curves, colour, AI masks, portrait retouching, object removal, film looks and auto edit — is free with no subscription and no ads. Nothing in the editing tools is locked behind a paywall.
Can I edit a photo just by describing what I want?
Yes. Type something like “warmer, and lift the shadows” and Doover makes the edit and tells you exactly which sliders it moved. Every change stays editable, so you can keep talking or adjust it by hand.
How does Doover's AI auto edit work?
Tap Auto edit and choose Natural, Balanced or Creative. Doover reads the photo, writes an editing plan and carries it out in front of you one move at a time — crop, exposure, colour, masks for the sky or subject. Natural stays true to the light that was there, Balanced is an everyday finish, and Creative reinterprets. Nothing is baked in: every slider stays yours.
Is Doover a good alternative to Lightroom or VSCO?
If you want Lightroom-style control on your phone without paying a subscription, yes: Doover has curves per channel, a hue-by-hue colour mixer, colour grading, AI masks that select the sky and subject, healing and object removal, and film looks in the spirit of VSCO — all free. What it adds is editing in plain words, an auto edit you can watch and undo step by step, and AI effects no traditional editor has.
How do I make a photo look like film on iPhone?
In Doover, open a photo and pick a look: film stocks, cinema grades and black-and-white papers develop on the photo as you swipe. Then fine-tune with grain, light leaks, curves and colour grading. Looks are free and instant.
What are Doover's AI effects?
An effect redraws your photo as a new piece of art — a neon sign, a torn zine page, an antique natural-history plate, a newspaper front page, a film contact sheet and many more. Each effect is a skill written by a person, some by the community. Pick one with a tap, or describe the result you want in a sentence. Your original photo is always kept. An effect takes about 30 to 90 seconds and uses credits; a failed render is not charged.
Can I remove objects or people from a photo?
Yes. Doover's Remove tool paints out objects, people and distractions at full resolution, and the preview shows the fill you will actually get. Healing is there for smaller blemishes.
Does Doover retouch portraits and selfies?
Yes. Portrait retouching works on skin and eyes, and auto edit keeps skin tones natural on portraits. The camera also has composition guides made for faces: Eye Line, Headroom, Safe Crops and Selfie Arc.
Does the camera help with composition?
Yes. Doover's camera draws composition guides over the viewfinder — rule of thirds, golden ratio and golden spiral, triangles, leading lines, S-curve, frame in frame, negative space and a set for portraits — along with a level for the horizon. Guides with a direction rotate to match the scene.
What happens to my photos? Is Doover private?
Doover only receives the photos you choose or capture — never your whole library. Your original is always kept. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app. The privacy policy explains what is processed and where.
Is Doover on Android?
Not yet. Doover is available for iPhone on the App Store and needs iOS 17 or later.
Is Doover AI related to doover.com?
No. Doover AI, the photo editor at dooverapps.com, is unrelated to doover.com, an industrial remote-monitoring platform that shares the name.
